This stark scene was captured in late December 2019 south of Furnace Creek in Death Valley National Park. Early morning sun creates contrasting light and shadow defining each each stone and pebble. This is Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America at -282 feet. A dust storm in the distance was obscuring the horizon as it does on many days in this desolate area.

I was born and raised in New England and met my Canadian wife of nearly 50 years now while traveling in Europe in '73. I have mostly lived in Canada since. I have been interested in photography since 1970 and had taken multitudes of pictures in the "film" age. After a time away from photography, I jumped in again in the early years of the "digital" age. I graduated from the New York Institute of Photography in 2007. Since, I spent a couple of years as a part time professional photographer, though I am moving away from working to return to my roots in outdoor photography as a life interest. I enjoy taking landscape, moving water, and nature images - and any other passing fancy moment that deserves to last. I love quiet wild spaces...
