Description
This image was captured at Cibola National Wildlife Refuge near Blythe in southern California in January of 2019. The photograph depicts many snow geese - neither coming or going, just riled enough to find a new spot to settle for a spell. This park is located on a major migration flyway providing a safe haven for tens of thousands of migrating and wintering birds making it a bird watchers paradise. In this particular mass of Snow Geese, there are several White Pelicans. I believe they have had an identity crisis - they look so similar to the snow geese one could understand, excepting their size and shape, and the beak. They do seem to disrupt the flock in flight with the sheer size of the wingspan though, confusing the Snow Geese in kind.
