A trip, a fling, a flight can all be attributed to Dunlins in flight, as in a trip of Dunlins. These birds are a member of the greater sandpiper family and they are soooo flitty, turning and changing directions as on entity. They are also difficult to approach as they are mostly skittish around people. The best way to see them is to go to an area that you think they will be and hang around...the birds will come to you if you are quiet. This black and white photograph was taken from the salt flats off Rathtrevor Beach, Parksville, Vancouver Island, British Colunmbia in February 2021.
Featured in the FAA group The Grayscale Outdoors. April 2021.

I was born and raised in New England and met my Canadian wife of nearly 50 years now while traveling in Europe in '73. I have mostly lived in Canada since. I have been interested in photography since 1970 and had taken multitudes of pictures in the "film" age. After a time away from photography, I jumped in again in the early years of the "digital" age. I graduated from the New York Institute of Photography in 2007. Since, I spent a couple of years as a part time professional photographer, though I am moving away from working to return to my roots in outdoor photography as a life interest. I enjoy taking landscape, moving water, and nature images - and any other passing fancy moment that deserves to last. I love quiet wild spaces...
