Artist's Description
This long exposure high key color image was taken on the Frank Island sandspit off Chesterman Beach near Tofino, British Columbia, on the west coast of Vancouver Island in April 2016. The rising tide was closing in around the island making crossing waves gently opposing one another. The view is of the slender south side of Frank Island which was becoming inaccessible during this high tide.

About Allan Van Gasbeck
I was born and raised in New England and met my Canadian wife of nearly 50 years now while traveling in Europe in '73. I have mostly lived in Canada since. I have been interested in photography since 1970 and had taken multitudes of pictures in the "film" age. After a time away from photography, I jumped in again in the early years of the "digital" age. I graduated from the New York Institute of Photography in 2007. Since, I spent a couple of years as a part time professional photographer, though I am moving away from working to return to my roots in outdoor photography as a life interest. I enjoy taking landscape, moving water, and nature images - and any other passing fancy moment that deserves to last. I love quiet wild spaces...

Wonderful capture of Frank Island at high tide! Those waves looked a little choppy to me, but as you explain, the rising tide was making "crossing waves gently opposing one another" which is a marvelously poetic concept in and of itself! So, "peaceful" it remains!
