This long exposure photograph was captured in September 2020 in Yoho National Park at the Natural Bridge area along the Kicking Horse River. The river was named in 1858, when James Hector, a member of the Palliser Expedition, reported being kicked by his packhorse while exploring the river. Hector named the river and the associated pass as a result of the incident. At the precipice of the cascade which tumbles down and under the natural bridge, violent forces are at work eroding the rock continuing to create the opening now known as The Natural Bridge. At some point in the distant future, the bridge itself will cease to exist leaving only a gorge.

I was born and raised in New England and met my Canadian wife of nearly 50 years now while traveling in Europe in '73. I have mostly lived in Canada since. I have been interested in photography since 1970 and had taken multitudes of pictures in the "film" age. After a time away from photography, I jumped in again in the early years of the "digital" age. I graduated from the New York Institute of Photography in 2007. Since, I spent a couple of years as a part time professional photographer, though I am moving away from working to return to my roots in outdoor photography as a life interest. I enjoy taking landscape, moving water, and nature images - and any other passing fancy moment that deserves to last. I love quiet wild spaces...
