Description
This image was captured in mid-February in Joshua Tree National Park. This decaying joshua tree likely lived several hundred years in fact some have lived more than 700 years. These trees, which are part of the yucca family, are pervasive throughout the park especially at the north end due to the elevation and prime growing conditions which aids the tree in growing several inches per year. In wetter years the trees produce a white flower near the spiny evergreen tips. This tree, now prone, gives its 20 plus foot height a different perspective.
